Goodbye UWSU Film Society!
Okay folkes, here's a long one!
Today is officially the last day being a part of The UWSU Film SocietyCommittee. Film Society has taught me so much about myself, others and has informed my own understanding of what it means to be able to exhibit films for an exceptionally diverse audience such as that at University of Westminster. In my two years, it has been a privilege to witness immense change for the Society from the ground upwards - establishing an increasingly successful and influential social media portfolio allowing students to get to the very heart of all things FilmSoc, developing a digitally sustainable Archive of Screenings, Q&A Content and Society Shorts since the Society became affiliated with #UWSU back in 2011, and being able to promote incredible student-led work!
Last year, the 2017-18 Committee won Society of the Year at the UWSU Awards Ball - seeing Becca-Grace Shrader and Alexandra Xviirepresenting us was truly an honour above all else, and will never forget that night! I was exceptionally honoured to be invited back to join the Committee this September, this time as Marketing Director to serve our visionary Committee led by the esteemed Presidents Luca Ferrara and Patrik Krivanek. Those who know them well, will know that they're quite possibly some of the most hard-working, diligent and ambitious people around. They've built up the society to even further heights, and established a network of students engaged in both the society's activities and screenings as well as the prospect of applying to be on the Committee come April. This Semester we hosted two incredible events which go beyond our usual measures, we're immensely grateful to the mecca of Film Societies in the UK that are #CinemaForAll for hosting the prestigious Annual Student Cinema Day here at Harrow Auditorium, and we're also so grateful to all those who submitted films, attended, laughed / cried and critiqued our incredible Westminster Film Festival! No doubt it'll be back again next year..
Tonight marks Film Society's Final Screening of the Year, and the end of our tenure, most of this year's Committee having been on last year's Committee also - which just goes to show how much of a family we are! Looking out for one another, and being present in the moment are just two of the highlights I believe we'll all take from being apart of this incredible journey. I know that Luca Ferrara is preparing his speech right now and is emotional, as are we all - so please make sure if anyone sees him & Patrik, please make sure to plaster them with alcohol and hugs, maybe not at the same time though. Am so thrilled with the next beautiful humans taking on this great big challenge and know that they'll do well, I wish every success in the world to them and will definitely try to attend a screening or two (that is... if they even decide to let external guests / alumni still come into campus! :p) @Livan Garcia-Duquesne Asena Oyzoyn Christopher Fernandez Inka Kokko Tom Harrison you'll make Westminster proud <3 <3 <3 Last but by no means least, if anyone wants to have a few drinks with us tonight and get some food then come down to the Undercroft at about 9pm (when the film will have finished)!
The New Committee Page is still in the works and will be live tonight before the screening of #Interstellar at 6pm! Just in case anyone wants a sneak preview, and of our new-ish (January) website design -
Over and out to your new Presidents + Committee, show them your appreciation!!!
